Corpus of Latrinalia

This is the start page of the multilingual latrinalia (restroom inscriptions) corpus.

Details To the search

The corpus did not have any financial support (there used to be an RNF grant mention, but it was an April fool hoax.).

WARNING: The texts in this corpus contain obscenities, as well as racist and other insulting inscriptions. Publishing these texts in the corpus does not imply that the authors in any way share or support the beliefs expressed in them.

This is the start page of the corpus of latrinalia (restroom inscriptions). The corpus is currently being developed, which is why it only includes a handful of texts now. Each inscription is aligned with its English translation. Texts in Russian also have morphological annotation.

How to use the corpus

To start working with the corpus, choose language in the “Language/Tier” box (the default option is Russian). To find a particular word or lemma, fill in the respective text box and click “Search sentences”. To find all texts in a given language, type a star (*) in the “Word” field. Click on a sentence to view the source picture. More detailed search instructions can be found by clicking the question mark sign in the upper right part of the search page.

The “Message type” metafield allows the following values: reply, correction and verse.

The tagset for Russian morphological analysis can be found at this page of the Russian National Corpus.
